DayZ launcher & mod manager · Windows / Linux / Flatpak

Run DayZ anywhere.
Never bounced for mods again.

Zumbai lines your mods up to exactly what the server is running — not a version ahead — and keeps a backup so you can get in even when an update breaks things. On Windows, Linux and Flatpak Steam, from one install.

Why Zumbai

Mods that match the server — every time

Getting kicked for a mod mismatch is DayZ’s most common “can’t join”. Zumbai’s whole design is aimed at it: check before launch, never run ahead of the server, and keep a backup for when an update lands badly.

01 · MATCH

Checked before every launch

Zumbai checks your mods for updates before it launches — and deliberately won’t update a mod the server hasn’t updated yet. Being too current gets you kicked just as fast as being behind.

the #1 reason people can’t join
02 · BACKUP

Mod backup & restore

If a mod already updated and broke compatibility, Zumbai restores the version the server still wants — even sourcing it from another server running it — so you get in while everyone else waits.

nobody else does this
03 · IDENTITY

An identity that follows you

Your player name and settings are kept per Steam account and per server or server group. Switch account or hop servers and the right name, settings and favourites load themselves. Second account? It’s a click.

04 · OFFLINE

Offline mode

Launch straight into a local, offline session — no server needed. Keep a library of mod sets, mark the ones you use, and start the last one again in a click. Built for mod makers and server developers working in DayZ Editor, and for anyone who just wants to poke about.

05 · MAINTAIN

One-click maintenance

Clears out old logs, crash dumps and cache in one go — including the cache clear that fixes the dreaded “mantis hands” stretched-limb bug, and reclaims the disk it was quietly eating.

06 · STEAM

Steam stays free

Zumbai doesn’t sit on Steam pretending to be DayZ, so Steam can update the game and pull Workshop mods while the launcher’s open. Slow closes and stuck downloads, gone.

07 · DISCOVER

Find somewhere to play

Browse servers by type, map and country — every one flagged, so you can search uk, de, us and see who is near enough to play on. Players, ping and next reboot are on the card before you commit to anything.

08 · MODS

See what a server runs

Open any server’s full mod list before you join, every entry linked to its Workshop page. Know what you are signing up for — and what that 4 GB download is actually going to be.

09 · YOURS

Make it look like yours

Build your own colour theme and apply it live, or switch language — British and American English ship in the box, and anything else can be translated in the app and shared.

In-game overlay

One quiet line. Exactly what you tell it.

Not a dashboard hogging your screen — a single, subtle, click-through line in the corner. Real screenshot below — the icons are DayZ’s own HUD; the one text line under them is all of Zumbai’s overlay. You build that line from 16 live values and style every part of it, with different settings per server or server group. Edits apply live, no restart.

Linux

Not a port. A first-class citizen.

Windows-only launchers left Linux players copying mod folders by hand. Zumbai runs on Linux — one command installs everything and it auto-updates from then on. No terminal after that first line. On native Steam everything works exactly as it does on Windows, mod management included; on Flatpak Steam your install and library are found and launched, but mods are managed through Steam itself for now.

$ curl -fsSL https://zumbai.org/install.sh | bash ==› Wine prefix + fonts… ready ==› .NET runtime… installed ==› Zumbai Client… installed ==› Steam helper (native)… installed ==› Menu + desktop icon added.
Native Steam Flatpak Steam — finds & launches Auto-updates Desktop icon & menu

Before that line: install Wine, Winetricks and curl first — on Mint, Ubuntu or Debian that’s sudo apt install wine winetricks curl (Fedora: dnf, Arch: pacman). DayZ also needs vm.max_map_count set to 1048576 or higher; the installer checks yours and prints the exact command if it’s too low.

Why one command, not just an .exe?

Because there’s more to it than running a file.

That line sets up the Wine environment, installs the fonts and runtime DayZ’s launcher needs, and drops in a small native helper that lets Zumbai talk to Steam properly — something a Windows program under Wine can’t do alone. You run it once; everything after updates itself.

Steam, found wherever it lives

Native package, Flatpak, or both on one machine — Zumbai reads Steam’s own record of where it’s installed and uses the one that’s running.

Same game, same servers

DayZ runs through Steam’s Proton, exactly as if you pressed Play in Steam. Zumbai handles the servers, mods and profiles around it.

If it doesn’t start

Don’t run the Windows .exe directly — on Linux that does nothing. Use the command above. If the window still doesn’t appear, run ~/.local/share/zumbai/zumbai from a terminal to see the error, or read ~/.local/share/zumbai/zumbai.log. Re-running the installer repairs a broken install, and the Discord can help with the log in hand.
